Certain admin functions hang in WP 4.4

Since updating to 4.4 certain functions hang. Most noticeable when clicking on the updates icon. Update.php took 2.1 minutes to load after sending a GET.

Opening the all plugins panel is slow as well. Changing themes is another one where the site just hung. The process is being accomplished the page just doesn’t refresh for a long long time in the dashboard.

I have done all of the usual debugging and yes if I disable all the plugins its fine. The issue is that I can’t identify any one plugin and think its a matter of how many plugins are present (deactivated and activated).

I’ve searched trac and see a few items related to changes to the update and update-core files as it relates to third party (premium) plugin and theme updates but nothing about it hanging sites?

I rolled the site back to 4.3.2 and it runs perfectly.

Sites are on my VPS LAMP WHM PHP 5.6 MariaDB nginx/Varnish proxy
