Category: Replace Behaviour

Does anyone know how I could change the expiration after “Category Replacement”? The problem I am having is after a post “expires” I change the category on it, however once this occurs the “How to expire” is still active, meaning if this post were to be updated then it would expire to draft making the post disappear from the front-end. Is it possible to have the default expiration option set to “never” after the Category: Replace occurs? I feel like this is functionality that should have built in from the beginning.
