• Hello,

I copied a working WordPress installation to a WIndows Server 2003 machine with IIS 6.0 into a folder called blog under the root website.

I understand that mod_rewrite does not work in IIS. hence I installed ISAPI_Rewrite on the server. And added Rewrite Rule statements specific for wordpress installation. I have been able to get to the posts but my category links never work.

I am using /category as Category base. My category URLs look like: http://domain.com/blog/category/category_name/. How do I write a Rewrite Rule for this so that the correct category is shown?

Any ideas are greatly appreciated. I am stuck at this for the past 2 days.

    Thanks,
    Satya

    Folks,

Can anyone please reply? I have got to a point that I am forced to believe WordPress permalinks do not work in IIS. Is this true?

    Any one have any ideas?

Is it only me using WordPress on IIS? Who would I contact from WordPress if I have questions on wordpress?

    Thanks,
    Satya

Have you been able to fix this yet as I am having the same problems?

    Thanks

    Steve

As with most Permalink type questions, start with a look at Using_Permalinks in the documentation.

Be aware that by default, on IIS you won’t have pretty Permalinks — but you can do “almost pretty” instead. This is mentioned at the above link.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.

I’ve tried everything in the documentation and nothing works.

Everything and nothing don’t leave us anything else to talk about then, do they?

However! If you’d like to describe a bit about what you’re after and the end goal, along with some brief descriptions about what you’ve tried, perhaps we can help.

I’ll start by assuming you’re running IIS since that’s the nature of the thread you adopted. Without installing additional DLLs to IIS, the best you’ll get for Permalinks will be the of the almost pretty variant.

    Hi,

I am running under windows and index.php is allowed for a default page. I have installed ISAPI_Rewrite which we use on our ecommerce site very successfully.

WordPress is installed in a sub directory of the main site. The only permalinks that work are the default ones. Each of the other permalinks all just generate blank pages.

    Steve

As you’ve read (you followed the link right?), the “almost pretty” permalinks involve you specifying a custom permalink with index.php added.

What happened when you tried it?

And perhaps even more importanatly: What’s the goal here?
