Category list with descriptions

Hello.

I am new to using WP and was wondering how I can replicate the following:

<ul>
  <li><a href="#" "#">// category</a><br />
    <span class="small-text">description</span></li>
  <li><a href="#" "#">// category</a><br />
    <span class="small-text">description</span></li>
  <li><a href="#" "#">// category</a><br />
    <span class="small-text">description</span></li>
</ul>

The above is being use as a nav.

please be more specific. your question as is calls for the answer = copy and paste.

OK so the following lists out the categories:

<?php wp_list_categories(”); ?>

I wan to be able to list out te category names and the description as per my previous post.

So far I have…

$categories = get_categories();
foreach ($categories as $cat) {
 echo "<li><a href=\"#\">".$cat->cat_name."</a><br /><span class=\"small-text\">".$cat->category_description."</span></li>";
}
```
How do I get all categories even if they have no posts?

I’m not sure how to work it into your code – hopefully someone else will come along. wp_list_categories does have an hide empty argument – maybe that will help you.
