Categories won't go away

In my feature slider, on my posts on my index page and on the post page, the categories keep hanging around the featured image and wont go away, I cant figure out how to get rid of them with this theme, have been trying for atleast 4 hours now and it is doing my head in. anyone that can shed some light on this situation, please feel free to help me! I managed to remove the images behind the categories but thats as far as i got!
