    Hey Sybre

I want clarification regarding the following:

On your main setting page, under Robots Meta Settings I have selected No Index and No archive for:

    -Category Archives
    -Tag Archives
    -Author Archives
    -Date Archives
    -Search Pages
    -Attachment Pages

I have done this because I have no content in my category or tag pages and want google to only link to my site pages and blog posts.

However if I am in WP admin and go to WP/posts/categories(or tags) I see that the robots settings meta I chose in your plugin settings page are not followed. That is, if I open one of the categories (or tags) at the bottom of the edit page there is still the option to tick apply no index, no follow, no archive.

I have visited each of the category and tags pages to ensure the setting are correct…

BUT if I select a setting in Robots Meta, why isn’t that treated as global and carried across to the edit pages of each individual category and tag?

And just to clarify and be sure. If for example I tick No Index for category archives in the Robots Meta Settings, but I do not tick the no Index option on the edit page for a particular category, will that category still not get indexed by google?

Thanks in advance for your kind assistance.

    Max

    Hi Max,

If there’s no content within the Tag or Category, or if the page is not found (404), The SEO Framework will automatically output “noindex” for those pages. If it’s 404, The SEO Framework will point the Search Engine towards the Home Page (pointing link juice).

If you hover over The SEO Bar you’ll see the reasoning for the item being colored green, red, yellow or blue.
From what I read, everything works accordingly. If you however do find an issue within the front-end output data, please do let me know.

The reason it’s not treated as a global “default” value is because of these two reasons:
    1. Having reversing options from the main settings is very confusing for the user; and quite difficult to keep track of within the code.
    2. When switching the global options back, it’s even more confusing.

So this is resolved accordingly by showing the status in The SEO Bar, I believe it’s blue and says “But/And indexing for Tags/Categories have been disabled”.

Please note that from an SEO point of view it’s best to have categories, if you maintain and publish Posts. As this will announce to the Search Engines you’re active, have a blog and of course its subject.

I hope this clears things up. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! Thanks and have a great day!
