categories and wordpress multiple site version

Hello,

I’d like to be able to have the parent setup of WordPress with all of my possible categories that content can go into. Then, using the WordPress multiple site option, allowing people to register and create new sites, I’d like for htem to be able to select what categories they want to use based on the categories that i created in the main site/configuration.

is this possible? This way, I can control what categories are used and I can restrict users from creating new categories on their own sites. it also makes it so I can set up a search on the parent site and can pull in content from selected categories that might span multiple sites.
