• Let me start by stating that I am running WordPress through a hosting company.

I’ve created a blog, just getting started, and I’ve created categories.

When I save and refresh my settings, then select a category link I receive a 404 error.

IS this something that I will be able to fix?
Or is this a hosting company issue?

    Thanks
    ORA

  • What are your Permalinks set to? I’m going to guess they’re no longer at the Default? Which is fine… but check that Permalinks page for some troubleshooting tips.

In particular, confirm with your host that mod_rewrite and AllowOverride are properly on and enabled for your blog’s directory.

Also, I have read the 404 and categories messages as best I could and kept finding access issues with PHP or the pingomatic tag. I have removed the pingomatic and saved. Still received the error for the category.

I also had this same problem.

HandySolo is correct in saying the permalinks had been changed.

I’m using the Advanced Permalinks plugin which allows setting your permalinks to use only the post title or id (%postname% etc).

Category pages don’t like this for whatever reason, so at least try and add a category in there for good measure 🙂
