I thought about adding this feature in WP Carousel 0.5, but I found a problem: where do WP Carousel get the image for a category?
In WP Carousel 1.0 I’ve added a lot of new features to the Extras API. In this version you can extend much more WP Carousel without modifying a single line of the plugin itself.
The documentation of this new API is finished, but only in Spanish. I want to translate it to English, and I’ve planned translating it this weekend, so I think next week the documentation will be ready.
It’s really simple to extend WP Carousel with Extras and I’m sure you will not found any problem to create a carousel of categories by creating a new Extra for that purposes (same for authors).
Thanks for your reply, I should have added that ideally I am looking to have the latest post from each category to appear in it’s appropriate [slot], so that’s where the image would come from. Does that make sense?
So you want to add to the carousel the lastest posts from the main categories, isn’t it? I thought you want to add a list of main categories to the carousel.
Have you try to add the main categories to the carousel? In WP Carousel 1.0 I’ve added a new post order: random order. With random order and the main categories added to the carousel, you can do something very similar to what you want.
But you can always wait until I release the documentation.
Yes that’s what I would like to do and thank you for your prompt reponses, I appreciate it! I’ll check out 1.0 and give it a try. Thank you!
Thanks for using WP Carousel!
I Just installed the beta 1.0 and it’s still asking me to populate the Carousel with “posts from a specific category”. If I have 6 categories of say cats, dogs, horses, etc. (as an example) instead of showing 10 entries from the category of cats, I want the carousel to select one post from each. So it would look like
< [cats post] [dogs post] [horses post] >
So, I have not been able to add more than one category to the Carousel. Perhaps I’m just misunderstanding. Thanks!
I said that you can add, for instance, 1 post from category dogs, 1 from cats and 1 from horses, and set the order to random, so in the carousel it will appear like this:
[A post about dogs] [A post about horses] [A post about cats]
And when you reload the page:
[A post about horses] [A post about cats] [A post about dogs]
But if you want to show just one post from those categories, you’ll need to create an Extra.
Hy,
I ‘ve created page “Projects” who have her own type Category. I want to know if it’s possible to call in WP Caroussel because actually, I just can call Post Category…
Thanks for your response and sorry for my english…
In WP Carousel 1.0 Beta 2 there is an Extra that do exactly what you want: it allows you to add items with an specific custom taxonomy.
This Extra will be included by default in final release of WP Carousel 1.0.
Hi,
Thanks for your quick answer. Is the beta 2 already online ?
It’s ok, It was on your website.
Thank you very much
See you soon 🙂
arrf I’m sorry… all my JQuery functions doesn’t work when I activate WP Carousel beta2. Have you got an idea ?
I’ve had already the same problem whith other plugins, like Booking Calendar, but I don’t know why…
If you can help me
sumolari, sorry for the delay in responding, your suggestion of adding multiple instances of a category and setting each instance with a different category and “number of items = 1” seems to be working! Thank you! It is now showing the most recent thumbnail for each category in the carousel. Now I just need to add the category title along with the thumbnail and I’m all set. I’ll let you know if I have problems with that. Thank you very much for your help.
