Can't upgrade plugin – fail each time

My dashboard tells me there’s an update available for this plugin so I click on the update button and this happens:

Installing the latest version…

Removing the old version of the plugin…

Could not remove the old plugin.

Plugin update failed.

Please tell me how to correct this.
