Can't run install script – 404!

    This is probably a very basic problem but I just can’t seem to figure it out, so any help would be much appreciated!

    I have followed all the steps to install wordpress on my hosting, but when I get to Step 5 – running in the install script, I just get a 404 error.

    The url is: http://www.ratasouth.co.nz
    There is an existing website that I will replace when the new one is done.

    I have uploaded the wordpress directory (renamed ratanew) to the root folder, and have set up the wp-config.php. I have set up a MySql database in my hosting.

    BUT when I go to http://www.ratasouth.co.nz/ratanew/wp-admin/install.php I get the 404 error message.

    Is there something basic I haven’t done?

    check if the permission ratanew folder is 755

    Yes the permission is 755

    is ratanew folder in your root or home who is your host.

    The folder is:

    ratasouth.co.nz > ratanew

    Do i need to move it? It is in the same place as all the files for the existing website ie. index.html

    Hosting is webdrive.co.nz

    ratanew folder as whole needs to be in same folder index.html file is as that folder is your your root.

    is it window server or linux server as i see they offer both

    I think that the site may be ASP/.net

    Do you think that is the problem?

    The hosting people said this:

    Your domain ratasouth.co.nz is currently using Default (Windows win2) domain template which will prevent you from using WordPress that may be installed on different hosting provider.

    Please point your domain to correct server to enable your domain to work with your installation.

    That is the reason why you can not use wordpress as you need php for wordpress and windows use asp if your site ratasouth.co.nz a basic html and you want to use wordpress then ask them if they can switch you to linux.
