Can’t restore backup (WAMP)
-
Hi David,
(I bet you’re sick of questions about updraft..?! :), I’m really sorry _/\_ )
So, In January, I was building my website in WAMPServer (locally on my computer).
I don’t know anything about anything and did it a step at a time and it took a couple of weeks as I had to learn everything about using worpress and wamp and plugins and php and a load of other confusing acronyms and inevitably used my brain’s swapspace to learn it all,
– then CV19 happened –
and now I’m able to get back to working on it I’ve basically forgotten almost everything I learned..
Anyway, that’s some context I guess.
I’m here after trying 3 times to restore from backups I made in January – only to completely break wordpress each time resulting in the need to completely re-install it thrice (and re-installed WAMP once as well)
I’m on a different machine here – and quite possibly different versions of, let’s see, WAMP / WordPress / php / and UpDraft (at least..)
Logic told me to proceed exactly the way you’ve described in this post* that I subsequently found after hitting this snag..
(https://wordpress.org/support/topic/complications-with-restoring-full-backup-with-updraft/ *your reply, first in the comments section.
which is also how I came across your name, incidentally)So, that is what I’ve done – but it hasn’t worked.
I can’t say I’m all that surprised it hasn’t worked but I have a FEELING it’s not as disastrous as it appears – intuition tells me it’s probably one or two lines of code somewhere that no longer match up, resulting in a complete loss of contact with the whole database / wordpress install.
Ideally, I’m looking to carry on working on this site on my MacBook (as opposed to the PC I’m on now) but, one step a time – If I can get it going and get 2-3 weeks of hard work back on this machine – that’ll be a BIG relief for starters!
Cheers for any help 🙂
