• Hi ..
I have a site built with dreamweaver already running at cajucatering.com. However I want to replace my current site with a site I build with wordpress. I did the initial install of wordpress through my host (ipage) but they told me I can not work on wordpress and have my current site up at the same time because word press is built as you go ..

So I can not afford to take down my site. I have to leave it running till I am done with my new wordpress site. But how can I work on my wordpress site and preview it with out taking down my current site?

  • Develop it on localhost or install WordPress in a folder and move to root when done.

Try installing WordPress in a sub-folder.

    Hi fernanda381,

To expand on what nsathees and esmi suggested, you can use something like XAMPP, WampServer, EasyPHP, etc. to install and work on your WordPress site on your local computer. When you’re ready to launch the new site, upload your databases and files to your hosting account.

If you want to install WordPress to a sub-folder, once you have the new site developed and you’re ready to launch, follow the instructions here: Moving WordPress to move WordPress from your sub-folder to your document root where your current site is.
