• I had a disaster when I accidentally put a new WP installation in the same folder as an existing/active one on my server.

I’ve moved the new installation and was able to reload WP and connect it to the existing db. (yay!)

However, I can now see the home page, but every other link says “page not found”.

I can see the posts and pages in the admin panel. So, why can’t I load those pages in the browser?

  • Have you tried resetting your permalinks?

Yes. Didn’t do a thing, unfortunately.

What happens if you use the default permalink setting?

I am having the same problems, my tech person thinks our website was hacked. I had no problems uploading and editing the pages, a couple of weeks ago and now it does not upload any new updates and it shows the ‘pages not found’.

@mervt@caan.ca: It is impolite to interrupt another poster’s ongoing thread with a question of your own and it causes significant problems for the forum’s volunteers. Please post your own topic.

If I set it to default, it works!

But when I change it back to “post name” it stops working.

I’d really prefer to not use the default. Anything I can do?

    correction:

when I change it to default, it only works on a test page that I’ve created since recovering the database. It still doesn’t work on the older pages.

a related problem? though I am the sole administrator, the admin panel is telling me that I don’t have permission to view previews.

    Can we see this site?

    Thread Starter Allison

    (@asnevitt)

    Start by:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

ok. will try all of that. thank you.

apparently, most of the plugins I used to have don’t exist any longer. (I’m reactivating a site I haven’t used in over a year.) So, the only plugin which was active was Akismet. I deleted the Hello Dolly one.

changing to Twenty Eleven did not solve the problem.

What version of WordPress were you running?
