Hello Dawn, are you trying to install WordPress locally or on a server?
I’m trying to install it locally.
Ok then you need wamp server. Have a look at this following linn http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Easy_5_Minute_WordPress_Installation_on_Windows
and look at the bottom of this tutorial for instructions on setting up wamp.
Kind regards
Can I set that up even if I’ve already installed Apache, PHP and mySQL?
If you have IIS, Apache, PHP and mySQL already installed then you don’t need wamp. I sent you that link because wamp is an all in one server already setup nicely with all programs needed and more to run WordPress. It is very easy to use 🙂
For IIS try this link http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/280/install-wordpress-on-iis/
and if you have problems running IIS then uninstall everything and install Wamp 🙂 you will love it….
Only do the above if you come across some issue. I always believe in simplifying my life hehehhehe
Kind regards
I don’t really know what’s going on. I tried installing again with the Web Platform Installer but when it says that I have successfully installed WordPress there’s no link to open it. It just opens Microsoft WebMatrix, whatever that is!
I can’t figure it out. I don’t know whether it’s IIS or something I’m not installing correctly.
Thanks for the advice on the WAMP. I’ll also try that link for IIS to see if I can get something going. This is getting frustrating…
I tried going to http://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php again and it just doesn’t load. 🙁
I have used Wamp many times and it is very easy to set up 🙂 you will love it 🙂
I also have used Uniserver, setup on my memory stick 🙂
There are a few ways to run WordPress on a local disk or memory stick using various different portable servers 🙂
Kind regards
I might try WAMP. When you stay uninstall everything, do you mean apache, php, mysql and phpmyadmin? Do I have to do anything with IIS?
Yes uninstall everything, Wamp has everything that you need to run wordpress already included…..;)
Okay, I will give it a try. Thank you very, very much for the advice. I will let you know how it goes. 🙂
I installed WAMP and turned off IIS. How do I get localhost to point to my WAMP files?
