I’ve had trouble supporting Detube, I wish I could get in contact with the theme’s creator to work together to make things work more reliably. In the past it has used a modified version of Video Thumbnails, so make sure you’re using the official version and not “Video Thumbnails for Detube”. I do have a few other suggestions though.

Does clicking “Search Again” after publishing a post find the thumbnail?
Have you tried it without entering anything in the custom field setting? (theme authors could be specifying it automatically in their code)
Are you using any other video plugins like Automatic YouTube Video Posts?

No other plugins, fresh WordPress install. I’ve tried without anything in the custom fields box, I’ve tried searching again after the post is published, and yes, I’m using the official video thumbnails plugin. Not sure what else to check

Can you send me a login so I can check it out?

Checked it out and it seems to be a problem with that specific video, as I was able to create a test post with no problem.

If you take a look at the oEmbed info for that video provided by Vimeo you’ll notice that the address in the <thumbnail_url> section (http://b.vimeocdn.com/ts/461/991/461991790_1280.jpg) gives an access denied error.

One possible solution is to go to the Providers tab in the settings and fill in the optional settings after registering an app (it’s free) with Vimeo. This uses a different Vimeo API and will probably fix the issue.

Interesting, ok thanks. Appreciate the help!
