    Hi,

We recently moved our shiny all working wonderful WordPress to a new server as the other was getting slow old and full…and it stopped working.

Whenever I try create a new site or visit one of the site a user already created, I get “the webpage cannot be found” problem with HTTP 404 error.

I tried creating a separate install of WP 3.2 and that wouldn’t work either, exactly the same problem. I’ve also tried checking my htaccess and php-config to make sure all is well and as far as I can see it is. Also the DB info is all correct in terms of username and password.

Any help would be much appreciated as I was meant to be demonstrating this tomorrow (slight spanner in the works eh?).

Currently running an on Ubuntu server if that helps.

Did you bring the .htaccess file over. If so, what’s in it?

When you copy files over, remember to make sure the new permissions and ownerships are okay, too!

I redid the .htaccess just to be on the safe side and have tried changing the file permissions also.

Just a thought, I don’t have ftp set up on the new server, it was being twitchy so I just VNC or mount the network drive to access it. Could that be causing the error? (totally wild stab in the dark here!!)

If the permissions aren’t right on the mounted drive, yeah (that sounds exactly like what happened with my Windows <-> Unix mount last month actually). Unix likes permissions to be ‘the same’ so it knows user saltd is user saltd on both the mount and the server.

Right, I use my network account on the mounted drive and a seperate local account for the server itself. Would an easy way to test if this is the problem be to unmount the drive from windows and see if it affects it?

Not sure that I’ve followed you completely, I’m having one of those days sorry.

UPDATE: I took the “readonly” off on the mount as a trial on the WP folder, no effect if that’s what you were tihnking?

Something I forgot to add and I can’t edit my post.

The front page default blog is still working. Just any of the multisite user created ones.
