    When I go to:
    Appearance > Themes

and then click “Add New” button, I get a mostly blank tab.

I get a toolbar that has “Featured,” “Popular,” “Latest,” and “Feature Filter.” I even get a button that says “Upload Theme.”

However, nothing works. I click on stuff and nothing happens. By the way, this is a fresh install of WordPress.

    Any thoughts? Thanks.

  • this probab;ly means there is a communications issue with wordpress.org – can you go to wordpress.org, download a theme to your PC then in you site – go to the add new theme and use teh upload button to upload the theme from your PC and install it.

You may want to contact your host about this.

    Thanks.

However, I am not so sure if it is solely a communication issue. I did another install of WP, under a different domain, but with the same host, and all works just fine.

I even tried removing and re-installing WP but the same issue remains.

    Any other ideas?

It could still be a communication issue. WP 4.0 does more with ssl and your two domains could be on different servers with different levels of software. I had an issue wher I could not install themes on one domain, but another was fine using the same host. After talking with tech support at the host, they did something to openssl and got it working.

Moral of the story is if the domains are not on the same server machine, you are comparing apples to oranges

Just spoke with tech support at my host. They said they can see everything fine when they log-in and go to the Themes page, and there is nothing wrong on the server side.

    Now what? Any ideas?

I figured it out. There was a weird “temp” file in the cgi bin.

Deleted it. All works wonderfully now.

    Thanks.
