I set up an account with GoDaddy to host and did 1 click install of WordPress 2.7. The admin URL points to my blogger account, and not the WP admin. I’ve called GoDaddy and they insist WordPress is redirecting the URL, not that they have it pointed to the wrong place. They told me to contact WordPress. Now what?

  • Hi Joe,

I have experience with using 1-click installs of WordPress at GoDaddy for some of my clients.

I can try to troubleshoot your blog if you want me to.

    1. If Godaddy is where you are hosting your domain and Godaddy is your domain registrar, then in your Godaddy account, make sure your domain name server are pointing to the Godaddy nameservers. If you just did that, then you may have to wait for the name server change to resolve across the internet. This does look to be your problem!

    2. A second possibility–you may have an index.html (or index.php) file that has code that is resulting in your blogger site to be ‘invoked’ so look at that.

Nice! contact wordpress!… have not heard that before.

Installing wordpress yourself is really very easy on Godaddy, without the need for one click installs.

I have been asked this so many times how to set up wordpress on godaddy I am actually thinking or writing a step by step article on getting it done.

I have an active domain, http://www.howjoeseesit.com hosted on Blogger. I told GoDaddy that when I set up the account. I told them I wanted to install WordPress, build the blog, and when I was ready, I’d export the content from my Blogger blog to the new WordPress blog and then delete the Blogger account. GoDaddy could then redirect my domain name to the new account. They had me buy a Dedicated IP to do this.

So now the WordPress admin url is HOWJOESEESIT.com/wp-admin. Wouldn’t that point to my existing domain? When I click on it I go to a Blogger screen.

Maybe I should Uninstall WordPress and start over?

If your domain nameservers are pointing to something besides your Godaddy name servers, then you aren’t going to get WordPress installed at Godaddy.

Consider installing WordPress on your local PC and work with that until you are ready to switch your domain name servers.

I guess that route would take GoDaddy out of the picture so my frustration with them would end. So will I be able to pick a theme, set up my categories, plug ins and all that on my computer and then upload the whole thing to GoDaddy when I’m ready?

lol, they had you buy a dedicated IP? ah man…

Certainly, but you will want to understand Moving WordPress.

Man, I’m thinking I should stay at Blogger. It’s so easy! I don’t know enough about the techy side, I’m a writer you know?

I don’t know enough about the techy side …

thats why there are techie ppl — to set things up for you.

if you like what you have at blogger, keep it.

If you dont, or want more, and are not wanting to make the switch yourself, then find someone that’s reasonable, and pay to have it done.

Plenty of folks that fit that bill post here on a regular basis.

Just wanted to update you on what I did, and thank you for your input. I bought the .net domain name and have changed the hosting account to it. That way my .com account on blogger stays active and is not involved in the move to self hosting at all. I’m currently doing the one click install as well. My idea to buy the .net, but I got good service rep on this last call to GoDaddy who set it all up.
