Your server doesn’t understand they’re the same, and isn’t talking to WP correctly. The best thing you can do is use .htaccess to force www to always be on.

It’s not something you did ‘wrong’ it’s just a server not set up ‘best’ – You should be able to use either www or not, and your server should handle the redirections. When it doesn’t, we have to force it.
