The requirement is PHP 8.2, if you are on PHP 8.3, it will work as it is higher. I am not sure why you are not able to update, you might want to contact your host. The PHP version detection is done by WordPress. The plugin just states the requirement.
I am confused. There is a PHP version mismatch issue on my Managed VPS
Issue Description:
- cPanel Configuration: In cPanel (under PHP Manager), the global PHP version for the account is explicitly set to PHP 8.3 (selected via radio button in the interface).
- WordPress Plugin Requirement: I am trying to update the WP-ShowHide plugin to version 3.0.0, which requires at least PHP 8.2 (as stated on the plugin’s official WordPress.org page).
- WordPress Warnings & Errors:
- In the Dashboard (Plugins screen): WordPress displays a red warning under WP-ShowHide (v2.0.0) stating: “There is a new version of WP-ShowHide available, but it doesn’t work with your version of PHP.”
- Manual Upload Attempt: When attempting to manually upload the
wp-showhide.3.0.0.zip package, the installation fails with the error message: “The package could not be installed. The PHP version on your server is 7.4.33, but the plugin you are uploading requires 8.2. Installation failed.”
Any idea where could this PHP 7.4.33 be coming from if cPanel clearly indicates that PHP 8.3 is active for the account?
The hosting company solved the problem. I didn’t know about two types of PHP and look like I set wrong version of PHP to 8.3. Answer and fix:
Your site uses PHP FPM, not FastCGI as seen in your screenshot. From there I changed it to 8.3 and you can now proceed to install the plugin.
So now Your plugin is successfully updated to version 3.0.0
