I have not seen that issue before but it doesn’t seem like an issue with WooCommerce. Can you please try deactivating all plugins except WooCommerce and re-test. Let me know your results.

I have the same issue. I deactivated all plugins except WooCommerce and retried to update product categories. Allways the same message “item not updated”.

The slug may not be unique. Before saving, append a number or something to the slug and save.
Yes! That’s it! There was a conflict between my post categories and the product categories. I changed my old post categories, and it works well now.

Thanks for the help. I had started to add a new product category every time I had to change something in the category but that was definitively too much work. I tried again modifying a product category and it works now even without changing the slug.
