Cannot update footer

When I try to update my footer text in the CSS, it gives me an error code: ‘Something went wrong. Your change may not have been saved. Please try again. There is also a chance that you may need to manually fix and upload the file over http://FTP.’ I see that it actually does edit the text, but as soon as I log out, it reverts back to the old version. I’m using the free Encase theme, and using the ‘Encase Footer’ in the Appearance > Customize area doesn’t work (the text doesn’t show up anywhere). Help?
