FTP into your site, go into the wp-content directory. Rename the “plugins” directory to say, “plugins2”
Try and log-in. Does that get you in? If so, you’ll need to hunt down the faulty plugin.
(Don’t forget to rename the directory back to its original name of course)
Hi,
If you have already checked with disabling the plugins then have a check with these options:
– Reset the password
– remove all unwanted code from htaccess
– change the theme to default to rules out theme level problem
Thanks,
Shane G.
I tried everything here:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Login_Trouble
Even changed the username and recreated the MD5 for the password. I double checked everything else in the article as well. Still nothing, it does the same thing and refreshes the page. I’ve reset Safari, and deleted all cache, temp, history, etc. There is no misc. code in the .htaccess
Password reset: after i put in my email, the page resets and shows this message:

My system stats:
Mac OS X 10.5.8
Firefox & Safari
Again, i have another separate WP install using the same theme, same server, same domain, except installed into a sub-directory (instead of the root like this one) and it works just fine.
I’m going to do a re-upload of all the major WP files and see if that helps…i guess it’s a corrupted file somewhere?
OK, i just reloaded all the WP files (except config and WP-content), and that didn’t do JACK squat. I’m completely baffled. I’ve confirmed the info and changed it on the DB level, confirmed that it’s not the plugins, themes, or browser…what else could it be??
Ok, two more things to try…
1, see if you can log in from a completely different computer (just to rule that out).
2, Take a backup of your wp-config.php file and put it somewhere safe.
Download a fresh copy of WordPress, take the wp-config-sample.php from it and copy all the relevant details *carefully* from your existing wp-config.php into it. Delete the wp-config.php from the server (you’ve kept a backup, right?). Rename the wp-config-sample.php to wp-config.php and upload it using FTP, in Auto mode.
I backed up the SQL DB, and completely purged the rest from my system. Than i reinstalled and could login fine.
As soon as i restored the DB i had, the same issue happened which leads me to believe the DB got corrupt. I created a new DB from scratch and haven’t had any problems, so i’m guessing that’s the problem. Thanks for the help though!
Just upgraded to 2.8.5. As a test, we also did a totally clean install, new code, new DB, everything.
I am having the same problem on my MAC, using Firefox or Safari. I login to the admin site and it just resets. Tried everything on this page. However, it works just fine on my Windows XP pc with IE 7 or Firefox.
This is crazy – someone please figure this out!
