Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.
If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

Also, if the problem is that the password is incorrect, we have some options for you at https://wordpress.org/support/article/resetting-your-password/
thanks for the feedback
my issues is, i dont know what email address was used for admin when this website was created, hence when i click on forgotten password it doesnt accept my email addresses that i have tried.
so frustrating 🙂
Ah ok, in that case try this method: https://wordpress.org/support/article/resetting-your-password/#through-phpmyadmin
That will walk you through changing your password directly in the database, and you’ll see what your username is saved as along the way too. 🙂
You’ll find phpMyAdmin in your hosting account’s control panel, and if I have guessed your hosting provider correctly, those steps are under https://www.ionos.com/help/hosting/using-mysql-databases-for-web-projects/open-phpmyadmin-administration-of-your-mysql-databases/
Ok extremely greatful for the reply. Will keep you updated as to the outcome.
thanks again
..and yes that is my hosting provider 🙂
