Cannot change page password

    I have a page that is password protected. I’d like to change the password I originally, but even when I hit “OK” and can see my new password is there, the minute I hit “update” it reverts to the old password I entered. It won’t let me change what I originally entered. I feel like I’m in the Hotel California…I checked in, but I can never leave my old password. =) Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    In case any plugin/theme is interfering, try:
    – deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – switching to the unedited default Theme (Twenty Sixteen, etc.) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
