Cannot Activate Plugins. Getting 500 Internal Sever Error

    As of today I’ve found that I cannot Activate any Plugins. I installed a new one successfully but when I tried to Activate it I got the message:

    ‘The lifeisstrangefans.com page isn’t working. lifeistrangefans.com is currently unable to handle this request.’

    I tried it with other Plugins an it’s the same. I can Deactivate Plugins but trying to Activate them again comes up with the same error.

    – I’ve checked htaccess file and it doesn’t seem corrupt. Also tried creating a new one by renaming the old one and saving Permalinks.
    – I already have a high WP PHP Memory Limit

    But it does seem like it could be memory related?

    Anyone have any ideas on this please? Thanks.

    http://lifeisstrangefans.com/ most likely is having problems. The page is riddled with javascript errors.

    Have you tried:
    -deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
    -switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    Hi. Thanks for the quick response. I do have a lot of plugins on the site as I’m not a programmer so there may be some JS issues although the site has run fine before today, if a little sluggish occasionally.

    The site is live but I guess I could deactivate and re-activate plugins. I guess my worry is it’s the Activating of Plugins that throws up the error. So the last thing I want is to Deactivate every single plugin then find I cant reactivate any of them and none of the site’s features will be working.

    The only thing that changed today is that there was a WordPress update. 4.5.1. It might be possible that some plugins need updating in order to be compatible with this update?

    I may try rolling back to 4.5 to see if that helps first. Thanks again.

    The easiest way is to rename the plugins folder plugins-old.

    Renaming the plugins folder will Deactivate them all right? But I assume there’s no similar way to Activate them all?

    I just deactivated the 2 plugins brought up in the Google Inspect console for now.

    No, it will just make it so they can’t load. Renaming plugins-old back to plugins will result in the plugins that were activated still being activated.
