Can WordPress do this??

Hi Folks

This is my first post here, looking for advice please.
I want to build 2 sites and am looking for the best platform and theme. The first site will be a food/recipe blog for my wife to put her foody stuff onto and share with friends and hopefully monetise later.
I have registered and hosted the domain (maryhomechef.com) installed wordpress and have been researching which theme to go with and am leaning towards THESIS.
The second site will be a site where my 5000 customers (I run an alarm system service firm) can subscribe/log in and update their data (name,address,phone,email etc), so it will need a database on the back end with the ability to handle individual subscriptions. I also want to be able to add payment options and the ability to send sms text messages from the database as well as emails.

I know Thesis will be able to handle the Foody site, will it also be a good solution for the second more complex site?
I don’t really want to have to learn and manage 2 different lots of software.
