Can NextGen Do This?

First off, a big thanks to Cais for his help in fixing NextGen on my site.
Now………….
I’ve been looking for a plugin to do something specific and I’m hoping NextGen can. I’ve been looking around at all the options in NextGen and so far I really haven’t seen what I want, but with all the options available I hope I’m just missing it.

I want to add a gallery similar to what Gallery3 did. If your not familiar with Gallery3, it was a standalone gallery generator that was perfect for what I want to do. But due to many reasons (not the least being it’s no longer being maintained), it’s time to find something else.
Basically what I want is a gallery that displays the images in thumbnails, preferably with a description. Each thumbnail in turn links to a post.
I do not want a slideshow or a lightbox. I want separate posts for each image.
I also want this gallery to be part of my site, not a site itself.
An example is http://www.nosaintshistory.com/New-Orleans-Saints-History-Pictures/. This is what I have already made with gallery3 and am looking to do with NextGen.
