Deep breath first and then start with creating your safety net. Overwriting the WordPress installation is easy provided you didn’t modify the distribution files.
1 – Backup your installation.

2 – Read again and understand how to put it all back if you need to.

3 – With the backups safely in place, download a fresh copy of WordPress.
According to your site’s readme.html you have 3.1.2
http://wordpress.org/latest.zip
4 – Extract those files and copy what’s in the new wordpress directory on top of your installation. This will not lose anything and will restore your installation to a good state if that’s what the problem is.
Did that work? Let us know.
Thanks Jan.
I have discovered a few things wrong. Including that somehow a lot of permissions had been changed. With a bit of help that has been fixed now.
Word press was in fact still there on the server, it turned out the theme had been “moved” or deleted. Another friend jumped in and reinstalled/found the theme.
Now I’m just missing a heap of media files. Lots of blank spaces where photo’s once were. I’ve just sent another email to someone asking about that. I have hope that all the media files are still there just moved to another spot accidentally.
Once all this gets fixed, I will be retiring from doing much on websites!!
Thanks again.
