• I noticed that after doing a quick edit of a post, and changing the publish date, any attachments for that post are not updated. They aren’t moved to the new (correct) directory, they still remain in the old directory.

So if a post is published on 12/22/2016, the attachments go into that directory. If I do a quick edit and change the publish date to 1/15/2011, the post is updated, but the attachments aren’t moved to a Jan. 2011 directory. They still remain in the old Dec. 2016 directory.

Yup, they stay where they were created. It’s not a bug, it’s a WAD. Consider the case where you used the same image in another post. When you changed the date on one post, it would break the link in ther other one.

So when I change the date on a post, it’s going to lose all its attachments?

I did not say that. I said that that would be an issue with the suggestion you made.
