Thanks for testing it so thoroughly.
What you’re seeing is the two features overlapping, rather than something broken. Variation Swatches updates the product image on shop and archive pages, so when a shopper picks a colour or size the tile immediately shows that variation’s image. That’s the point of having swatches in the catalogue. GeneratePress Premium’s hover effect wants to swap that same image for the second gallery image. Both are controlling the same image in the product tile, so only one of them can be in charge there.
So it comes down to which behaviour you want on your shop page.
If the hover swap matters more to you, go to WooCommerce > Variation Swatches and turn off swatches for shop and archive pages. Swatches keep working on individual product pages, and the GeneratePress hover effect behaves normally again.
If showing the selected variation’s image matters more, leave swatches enabled on the shop page and turn off the second image on hover setting in GeneratePress instead.
Both plugins stay active either way, it’s purely a question of which you’d rather have on the catalogue pages.
