I see this theme is listed as a Buddypress-compatible theme. How do I install Buddypress on this site? I tried it and somehow managed to break everything, so now I’ve reinstalled a fresh most up-to-date WordPress and am awaiting any insight before I do anything else.

I tried following this advice from WPMU (the makers of Buddypress) to make it compatible:
    http://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/make-your-wordpress-site-buddypress-ready/

The Make theme did not have any of the folders and files the above article said it would need.

  • Hi there,

BuddyPress should work just fine with Make. I’m not sure what kind of problem you had when everything broke, but there is a BuddyPress support forum if you’re having difficulty with installation.

thanks… so I assume you just mean I install the Buddypress plugin and I’m off to the races.

It really is a question specific to your theme I’m having, Buddypress support can’t really help me…

    So:

    1. the tutorial says that a certain directory from teh Buddypress download has to be copied over into the theme to make it Buddypress-ready. And this directory is not seen in your Make theme.

    2. BUT, maybe your Make theme creators have integrated the necessary Buddypress stuff differently, like by including it directly in the CSS and js files of the Make theme, not just dropping an entire Buddypress directory into Make’s theme folder. Do you know?

As of BuddyPress 1.7, BuddyPress works with most any WordPress theme out of the box.

The documentation on the BuddyPress website might be better for you than the tutorial you linked above: Getting Started with BuddyPress

Thanks, Melissa. I was confused because Buddypress textareas are missing any kind of outline (they’re overridden by Make which declares “no borders” across the board) so it would be like going to Facebook to update your status and not being able to find the box because it just blends in completely with the white background.

I guess I’ll mark it as resolved
