• Please help. I am trying to get themes. They get uploaded to my server and show up on my wordpress presentation page but the same problem is showing up for all the themes:

    Broken Themes
The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.

    Name Description
    ocadia Stylesheet is missing.
    vslider-10 Stylesheet is missing.

I tried searching the forums first but couldn’t find anything for this or else my inexperience prevented me from recognizing it. So apologies in advance if you’ve already answered this somewhere.

    Thank you

    Peli

  • Your search-fu is very weak, grasshopper.

Be sure that when you place the new themes on the server, you don’t get extra directories mixed in.

    should look like wp-content/themes/YourThemeName/stylesheet.css

Many times, after unzipping, folks end up with
    wp-content/themes/ThemeName/YourThemeName/stylesheet.css

See that there’s too many sub directories there? Is that maybe what’s happening to you?

    Hi Handy Solo

Not only are my search skills weak, so are my computer mechanics. I’m not sure what you are asking so I copied and pasted where the files are going to on my server:

    /www/cgi/wp/wp-content/themes

When I unzip, I send the whole unzipped folder thru. Am I supposed to be opening the folder and sending the items thru individually?

    Your help is appreciated,

    Peli

I am just wondering why is your WP install in the cgi folder?

    Hi Moshu

I do not know. My computer mechanical knowledge is minimal at best. Can you tell me how it’s supposed to look and maybe I can call a friend who is better at this to see if he can help? To be honest, I don’t even know what cgi means…

Does your blog work? (just curious)

Yes Moshu it does. I did have a problem with my default themes and the css style sheet, my friend was able to fix enough of it to get one default theme working and one new one working. When I tried another new theme this morning, I ran into the style sheet problem again and thought it best to talk to you folks.

The other default theme has the wrong name on it. Let me go get the links so you can look at it if that’s ok.

I very well could have messed something up when I was trying to get new themes. I just don’t know.

Well, that directory/folder (cgi) is NOT the usual installation location for WordPress – that’s why I asked. Who did the installation?
Can we have a link to the site/blog?

I did the installation thru my server, Freeservers.

You never answered why and who installed it in the cgi directory.
I thought you wanted your blog at pelikancity.com

EDIT. In the meantime you gave the answers. Kinda…

Well I did want it at Pelikanicity.com. I’m going to have my friend look at it Moshu. I don’t know enough to talk about it intelligently with you all. Thank you anyway…

Delete whatever you have now (present installation) and install it in the public_html directory or htdocs – whatever is the “top” directory.

From his above posts, it looks like “www” is the top directory.
