Bread crumbs change when using Page With Post templates

When using the default template the breadcrumbs provide a path through the page hierarchy to the page, for example: Home→About the Library→Policies→Internet Use Policy. This is great.

For some reason, however, this doesn’t work when using the Page With Posts template. Instead the breadcrumbs are replaced with something along the lines of: Home→Categories Research Guides→News and Newspapers - Page 1. This isn’t at all what I want. How can I get breadcrumbs that reflect the page hierarchy as in the default template?
