Both sitemaps active at same time?

    Hi,

    Suppose you have a site that has BOTH regular posts and news posts (limited to a “news” category).

    1. Do you suggest turning on both the regular sitemap AND the news sitemap?
    2. If so, do we just submit BOTH sitemaps to console?
    3. Should we limit the categories for the news sitemap to just the “news” category?

    Yes

    2. If so, do we just submit BOTH sitemaps to console?

    Yes, but please note that submitting a news sitemap to the Search Console is just to keep an eye on it for errors. It’s not enough for getting included in Google News, read the instructions and follow the links in the Help tab on your News Sitemap settings page for that.

    3. Should we limit the categories for the news sitemap to just the “news” category?

    That depends on what type of posts you wish to submit to Google News. If you have different types of news, I suggest creating categories for them and (at least) include all those categories. Or, if your site is a pure news outlet, simply do not limit the news sitemap at all.
