Borders around excerpt & background color

  • Hey everyone! Could somebody patient and helpful help me with my site (www.jaysamphotography.com/blog) =)
    First, I know nothing about the editor in WordPress. What I would like to achieve is have the excerpts within a box just like in this site http://www.mymetrophoto.com/
    ….and maybe have the background of the excerpts different from the home. Please help. Thanks in advance!

  • You should consider using a Child theme. If you do not, your changes will be lost if you update the theme.

    Try adding this to the end of style.css:

    .post-left .excerpt {
        background-color: #222222;
        border: 4px solid #5D2927;
        color: #EBB32F;
        padding: 15px !important;
    }

    Adjust the colors to suit.

    Thanks vtxyzzy!
    This is what the end of style.css look like now

    }
    #slr_access .current-menu-item > a,
    #slr_access .current-menu-ancestor > a,
    #slr_access .current_page_item > a,
    #slr_access .current_page_ancestor > a {
    font-weight: bold;
    }
    .post-left .excerpt {
    background-color: #222222;
    border: 4px solid #5D2927;
    color: #EBB32F;
    padding: 15px !important;
    }

    For some reason it did not make a difference =(

    I do not see that code at the end of wp-content/themes/tarragon/style.css. Instead, I see this:

    #welcome-center span {font-family: 'ITCAvantGardeGothicStdBkCn'; font-size: 14px;}

    .post-left .excerpt-categories {display:none;}

    #entry-navigation a {color: #d6d6d6;}

    .post-right img {max-width:585px;}

    Please go to Admin->Appearance->Editor to bring up the style.css file. Go to the end of the file and paste in the code, then click ‘Update File’.
