How do I make my blog private until I’m ready to launch it? I was told to go to settings and privacy but I don’t have anything called privacy under my settings category. Other options?

Thanks. But I don’t want the blog to remain private. Isn’t there anything on wordpress dashboard that I can just switch?

Try the plugin Esmi provided. When you’re ready to launch your site to the public, just deactivate the plugin.

The privacy setting in WordPress by default (in Settings -> Reading) just adds a line asking search engines not to index your site. It doesn’t actually hide your site from public view. The plugin I suggested will do that.
