• Hello Everybody,

Wonder if anybody could tell me what I’ve screwed up and put me back on the correct track, please.

I know it’s some silly thing I’ve done, by deleting something I shouldn’t have, but don’t know what I did!

The opening page at my site is now blank, whereas before it showed something? Please look at:
    http://forexrebellioninfo.com/

The ‘Blog’ page (where did that come from?), which is now empty, but I would very much like to have my WordPress site open with, ‘Forex Rebellion, The Video’, but don’t know how to move it over.

In fact, the whole site seems to be becoming a bit messy, with the ‘System’ and ‘Blog’ boxes starting to meld together and the same thing happening at the other end with ‘Forex Rebellion Trading’ and the ‘Search in Blog’ boxes coming together.

    Any clues please?

Would be very grateful if I didn’t have to delete it all and try to start all over again.

    Thank you,

    Ray.

Did you install a new theme?

The opening page at my site is now blank, whereas before it showed something?

What did you have showing at first? The page is empty because there are no posts to show. Have you published any blog posts or were you using the site to display pages only?

In fact, the whole site seems to be becoming a bit messy, with the ‘System’ and ‘Blog’ boxes starting to meld together and the same thing happening at the other end with ‘Forex Rebellion Trading’ and the ‘Search in Blog’ boxes coming together.

This is caused by the theme, the CSS positioning is overlaping on certain elements – if you know some CSS you can reposition the search box above the navigation bar or disable it altogether and use the one in the sidebar widgets.

    Hi,

    Check with these options:

    -> Disable all the plugins.
-> Change your theme to default in order to rules out theme level problems.
-> Remove all unwanted code from htaccess
-> upgrade your wordpress to the latest version.

    Thanks,

    Shane G.

    Thank you Shane,

Your suggestions are probably perfect for someone who possesses even the slightest modicum of technical skills, but that’s not me, I’m afraid.

This is my first attempt with WordPress and it took ages for me to even get the thing to work. Now, I’m fast running out of time and feel it might be best to delete the whole thing and start again from fresh as I don’t know how to do half the sensible things you suggested.

    For instance:

Not sure what the theme is. I did install new pages and they appear in the line at the top, but WP is only showing a blank page. Why can’t I simply ‘move’ one of the other pages into the ‘Blog’ slot. As I said, I can’t even find an empty Blog page on WP!

There was a page showing at first on Blog, but at 76, I can’t remember what it was. Blank now, except for that message.

I wouldn’t know CSS if it bit me on the bum! Not technical enough to change code, even if I culd find it.

    -> Disable all the plugins.
Now that is something I can try, but only have a coupler. One for something called ‘All in One SEO Pack’. One called ‘Google XML Sitemaps’There was one called, ‘Hello Dolly’, but I deleted that.

‘-> Change your theme to default in order to rules out theme level problems.’
Haven’t a clue how to do that, but it does sound complicated, does it not?

-> Remove all unwanted code from htaccess
Now I think? I could find the HTacess file, but wouldn’t have a clue what part of the code would be unwanted…or ‘wanted’, for that matter.

-> upgrade your wordpress to the latest version.
Already upgraded to the latest, 2,8.5.

I would love to be able to follow your instructions, but apart from disabling all the plugins, i’m lost.

Hopefully, somebody has a simple to follow answer for this newbie chappy, but failing that, it might be faster to copy all the contents, delete the whole thing and start all over again. hate to do that but…

Bye the way. To give you an idea of my ‘newbieishness’.

Beneath this answer box is the sentence: “Allowed markup: a blockquote code em strong ul ol li. Put code in between backticks

“Backticks’? “Allowed markup”? All the rest of the gobbledegook?
Could be in a foreign language, for all the sense it makes to me.

    Cheers,

    Ray.

    Hello Shane,

Your suggestions about changing the theme paid off…to a degree!

I found one called Pool, I think. and a plugin for Yahoo Answers. That seems to work and it pops up as the opening page.

    One thing though.

I would much prefer one of the other headings to be the first page people see when they visit.

    Specifically, ‘Forex Rebellion, The Video’.

Any way to choose which page is the default page, please.

That ‘pool’ theme might not be the best for a Forex market blog, but I suppose investing in the foreign exchange market could be like swimming in a pool surrounded by a lot of sharks, if one does not know what they are doing! :o] So it will be O.K., until I can find a better one,

    Thank you again,

    Cheers,

    Ray.

Create a blank page and name it “blog”. Then go to your settings and select “Reading”, on the page that follows you will see the option to set the front page – the default is blog posts. Select A static page option and in the drop down menu select the page you want to appear as the front page. Save changes and view your site, you should now have the desired page as your home page and still have your blog πŸ™‚

    Hello Mr. ZGani,

It worked perfectly, as you may tell if you visit my site!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For your help. You are quite brilliant. Hope I shall be able to help someone else, when I have more experience and bcome an expert.

Also thank you Shan G. I appreciate you both for going out of your way to help a helpless and frustrated stranger.

Well, now to add another five Forex sites of similar nature.

    Cheers,

    Ray.

You are most welcome Ray, glad to have been of some help.
