• Hi everyone,

I just started a blog and want to adjust the summary of a post so that it shows the first paragraph. I want this to be dynamic for each post, not a fixed length. Is there a function I can use that allows me to do this?

I’ve tried the <!–more–> tag as found in this support question(http://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-do-i-show-a-summary-of-posts-on-the-home-page-and) but it didn’t work correctly. I was also going to make some other changes stated in that link but I couldn’t find the_conent() or the_excerpt() functions in index.php. Any help would be great.

My site is criticalchance.com if you need to look.

    Hi
You may use Excerpt field on writing posts screen to set manual summary as you wish. This summary will shown on home page.

Thanks for the quick reply but it’s still not working.

I found the_content function as well. I haven’t used wordpress since the new post format option and I found the correct index.php in there.

I changed it to the_excerpt () then put in <!–more–> after the paragraph I wanted, but it’s still the same and cuts off the paragraph prematurely.

Could there be something in the theme customization that is overiding these options?

Please try re-reading the theme author’s suggestion above.

Okay, thank you. I found what you meant by “excerpt field”.

This is a fresh install of wordpress so I hadn’t used any screen options previously and couldn’t see it.

    Thanks again.
