Blocking search engines

    I’m getting this error on all sites running XML Sitemaps: “Your site is currently blocking search engines! Visit the Reading Settings to change this.” (more than 50 sites). The Reading Setting is not checked to block search engines. We noticed the errors this morning after we updated XML Sitemap because of the reported vulnerability in v4.1.1. https://wpscan.com/vulnerability/820c51d6-186e-4d63-b4a7-bd0a59c02cc8

    I noticed another error in the Excluded Items box (if this helps):

    “There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.”

    The WP Site Health screen does not show any errors and no admin email came in (I checked spam too).

    There is no Save button in the XML Sitemap settings page, just the error in Excluded Items.

    None of the sites experiencing the error were updated to WP 6.0 (waiting patiently for 6.0.1). After we saw the problem this morning, we updated one site to WP 6.0, but still have the same error. I deactivated the plugin on all installs, which removed the sitemap.xml file from all sites.

    @lisagetcwscom, sorry for the trouble, and thanks for all the detail. If you can provide snapshots as well as the error log for the critical error you observed, that would be of great help.

    For now, we have released another version of the plugin and we plan to periodically update the same in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, we will be happy to look into this issue further.

    @auctollo I’m not seeing the update as an available download. For me, broken version is 4.1.3, which is the same version showing on WP dot org. Did you keep advance the software version?

    The older version, 4.1.3, that introduced the bug is still the latest version available as confirmed by others. When will the patched version 4.1.4 actually be released???

    Version 4.1.5 is now out as of late last night. It cures the bugs that I was seeing, so far. It does require your Google Analytics ID, however to work. It looks to cut out Bing notifications altogether…though.

    Please speak to the removal of Bing sitemaps…someone…
