    Hi,

I am trying to build a template for single events using the block editor.

It does not seem to be possible to only show the event description. I want to have full control over design and every single element like image, title, date, description and venue. Using the Single Event Block shows everything at once without any customization options. Using the default Content Block shows the same at once.

    Other topics:

    1. Google Maps link does not show, but it is enabled in the Event Venue block (Google Maps is disabled in the settings). I only want the link to show up.
    2. In the display settings (date & time) changing the “date time separator” only affects the events page and not the single event.
    3. The Event Venue Block width is too big, when there is no map.
    4. When you edit an event using the Block Editor, it doesn’t appear the same way as in the template design. In other words, it doesn’t look the same as it does on the front end, which makes the Block Editor obsolete.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi @davidspeyer,

Thanks for reaching out. I’d be happy to help with this.

If you haven’t already, and you’re using a caching plugin or your hosting provider has server-side caching enabled, could you temporarily disable it and see if that makes any difference with the issues you’re experiencing?

To help me investigate further, could you also provide the following?

    • The URL where we can see the issue.
    • Your WordPress version.
    • Your PHP version.
    • Your The Events Calendar plugin version.

With that information, I’ll be able to take a closer look and help determine what’s causing the issue.

I look forward to your reply!

    Hi @davidspeyer,

    Thanks for your response.

I tried reproducing the issue you mentioned under “Other topics”, but everything worked as expected in my test environment.

Could you let me know the name and version of your active theme? I’d like to test with the same setup and see if I can reproduce the behavior on my end.

Regarding your template question, are you looking to create a reusable event template that you can use whenever you create a new event?

If so, we don’t currently have a built-in feature for reusable event templates. However, it is possible to configure a set of default blocks that will automatically be added each time you create a new event by using a code snippet.

If that’s what you’re looking for, I’d be happy to point you in the right direction.

    Hi @d0153,

I am using a custom theme, but it is basically Twenty Twenty-Five.

    Regarding my template question:
For example there is no block to only show the event description. That is why it is not possible to separate the elements (featured image, title, description, etc.) from one another in a template (Design > Editor). Basically, I’m looking for a reusable template. But that’s exactly what was already available under Design > Editor > Templates > Single Event. The problem is that I can’t easily separate the individual elements from one another there. The “Single Event” block displays everything all at once.

    Hi @davidspeyer,

I apologize for the delayed response.

I understand what you’re trying to accomplish. Unfortunately, that functionality is not supported at the moment.

Please note that our plugins are not yet fully compatible with Full Site Editing (FSE) themes, including Twenty Twenty-Five.

Our team is aware of this limitation and improving FSE compatibility is on our radar for future development. While I don’t have an estimated timeframe to share at this time, it is something we’re actively considering as we continue to improve the product.

I understand this may not be the answer you were hoping for, but feel free to let me know if you have other questions or concerns.

    Hi @d0153,

    thank you for your help!

Do you have a solution for this?

Google Maps link does not show, but it is enabled in the Event Venue block (Google Maps is disabled in the settings). I only want the link to show up.

    Hi @davidspeyer,

    Thanks for your response.

I tried recreating the venue issue on my end, but everything is working as expected.

Could you confirm if you’re referring to this setting?

Also, I noticed that the password you previously provided to view this event is no longer working:

    https://www.ekg-gonsenheim.de/sitedevelopment/event/friedensgebet

Could you provide an updated password or a test event where I can check the issue? If possible, please also let me know which venue you’re trying to display (provide the venue address and name that you set). I’ll use the same venue on my test site to see if I can reproduce the behavior.

I look forward to your reply.

    Hi @d0153,

    the password is working again.

And yes, I am referring to the setting in your screenshot.

I am trying to display this venue:

    Ev. Kirche Mainz-Gonsenheim
    Elbestraße 1a
    55124 Mainz

    Hi @davidspeyer,

I tested this on my end by creating a venue using the details you provided, but I wasn’t able to reproduce the issue. Everything appears to be working as expected on my test site:

    https://approachable-crossbill-c78527.theeventscalendar.today/event/test-event/

Could you please try the following?

    • Update The Events Calendar to the latest version (if you haven’t already).
    • Temporarily switch to a different theme (such as a default WordPress theme instead of your custom theme) and check whether the issue still occurs.
    • If you have another plugin that integrates with Google Maps, temporarily deactivate it as well and see if that makes a difference.

These steps will help determine whether the issue is related to the plugin version, a theme conflict, or another plugin interfering with the map functionality.

Please let me know the results, and I’ll be happy to continue investigating from there.

    Hi @d0153,

I’m on vacation and won’t always be able to reply right away.

I’ve updated all the plugins. I’ve also activated the default WordPress theme and deactivated all other plugins. The link to Google Maps still isn’t showing up. The link to your test page seems to have expired already. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to check it out in time.
