We are using the Sucuri plugin on a wordpress site. The plugin is reporting on the dashboard that McAfee SiteAdvisor is blacklisting the site (i.e., it is red with an asterisk). When you click on the SiteAdvisor link provided, it goes to McAfee’s “threat intelligence” page on our domain which indicates that the site has a “minimal risk” (i.e., the lowest risk level).

My understanding is that this indicates that they don’t consider our website a threat. I would assume this also means that they aren’t blacklisting it. Or am I reading it wrong? Could it be that the Sucuri plugin here is at fault, or is this something we should worry about? (As a side note, we did take the precaution of having our host, WPengine, perform a server-level scan on the domain and it came up entirely clean.)

  • The plugin displays information that comes from SiteCheck’s API [1] and this information is cached for at least 48 hours. If you are still seeing the warning even after the cache has been refreshed then I suggest you to contact my co-workers in the malware research team [2] as I have no access to the code that powers SiteCheck so I cannot answer your question of why the warning exists, the plugin simply displays what SiteCheck reports.

Thanks for your reply. After requesting McAfee rescan the site, the Sucuri plugin alert for SiteAdvisor did go away.
