Best Practice when setting up a new WordPress

    Hello, I am new to WordPress.

    I have installed it and have created a child of twentytwelve theme which I am using. I take it this is so when I update the twentytwelve theme I won’t overwrite changes I have made to my twentytwelve-child?

    What other things should I do in order to setup my wordpress before I start customising it and changing settings?

    It won’t override the child theme, only the parent theme.

    It’s a good idea to back the site up first, just in case.
