bbPress vs. phpBB?

    Hi there,

    I am wanting to add a forum to my website and would like to ask people’s opinions on what they prefer and why when it comes to forums.

    I am thinking of using bbPress or phpBB. Which do you prefer and why?

    Actually you have more choices.
    bbPress,wpForo,Mingle,Asgaros and some others
    phpBB, SMF, vBulletin.. and gazillion of others
    So basically you are choosing between WordPress based forum and stand-alone forum. There are PRO’s and CON’s for each approach.

    With WP forums you get:
    PROs:
    Full WP integration, if you need common user base for forum and WordPress.
    Common look and feel, as much as your theme allows.
    Extension with WordPress plugins, including e-commerce and social-network likes (BuddyPress)
    Less hassle with updates.
    CONs:
    Slightly lower performance, higher hardware demands, maybe you will be lacking some convenient functions available on stand-alone forums.

    The reason I asked about these two specifically was because they were the two I am choosing between.

    Thank you for the pros and cons.
