Basic stuff about Categories and pages

    It may be me but, these WordPress video tutorials are just so confusing. What is the difference between a category, gallery, page, post, widget, tags etc. I am lost, utterly. Why is the terminology so banal and trite? I am trying to use ‘Sidewinder” but with very little success. Fir instance on the first page of the WordPress 101 tutorial it talks about galleries, but the only visual reference is categories!
    Can anyone help. I don’t need new and confusing plugins, I just need ‘Sidewinder’ to work.
