I’m seeing the exact same thing. It just started a few days ago. I’m not seeing any errors in the site log either. I’m trying to go through and disable other plugins to see if something is conflicting.
Can you check in Your Profile Settings that you have rights for BackWPup.
Thanks. That was it for me. Now I’m puzzled why my BackWPup roll was removed. That’s a side project for me to investigate I believe though.

Odd – my profile setting showed I was Backwpup admin as before. Apparently just going to the profile page reactivated the plugin’s presence on the side bar ….
