• Hi had to change servers and reinstall WP.

-I used “WordPress Database Backup” downloaded from this website
-Backed up with no issues and created a .sql file
-Reinstalled WP on a new server
-Clicked the last link on the Import page for WP and get the following error message:

“Please upload a valid WXR (WordPress eXtended RSS) export file.”

This is the nightmare that I didn’t want to have happen.
Please someone tell me what to do.

  • No, it is not a nightmare. You are doing the wrong thing.
If you have a .sql file – that is not suppposed to work with the import feature. Go to your phpMyadmin and import the .sql file there.

I’m uploading the plugin now… thanks. Minor panic there.

Now, please remind me – what other directories do I upload from my backup besides my “theme”?

I don’t know – whatever you need/want from the old site.
Images, like those in the /uploads/ directory.
    Maybe plugins.

What plugin are you uploading? You don’t need any plugin to do a restore.

Moshu – can’t thank you enough. Now the backup file has completed, it looks like my site is completely restored to the way it was. I did this before some how successfully but just didn’t remember. This was a little different though than the last time.

I used the “wp-phpmyadmin” plugin as you suggested and then clicked on “Manage” and selected the above with a funky looking interface where I selected my file locally and clicked the button “Go”.

    “wp-phpmyadmin” plugin
I didn’t even know such a plugin exists. I always use the “normal” phpMyAdmin database tool offered by the host(s).
