  • Hello, I have to clarify that the scanners provided with the plugin are used for different things, the current code contains around six different methods related to the file scanners which are used to either monitor changes or the integrity of the core files; the actual “Malware Scan” page is what you mentioned must be executed manually as it is pretty heavy so it is better to only execute it when the user requests it and not automatically in the background.

    The “Scanning Frequency” option is used to control the background file system scanners not the malware scanner; there is only one background process that runs with the frequency that you specify, which if I remember well is every 12 hours by default. This is used to monitor changes in the files and the data is reported in the “Audit Logs” panel of the plugins’ dashboard.

    To summarize, the malware scanner is manual, and the file scanners are automatic.
