Awful plugin
-
Where do I start!
This plugin is a mess.
It stores different order meta for marketing consent depending on checkout type (
ws_opt_infor classic, a WooCommerce Blocks additional-field key for block checkout), so it’s not obvious which value is actually driving subscription. When a contact shows up in Brevo, it’s often unclear how or why they were created or updated. The plugin does send a
subscription_locationin some cases, but it’s easy to miss and frequently empty for other capture paths. They removed the “pre-checked opt-in” option for GDPR reasons — fair enough — but the related settings/code is still in the plugin. I wasted a lot of time debugging that dead path before realising it had simply been removed from the Brevo UI.
They also don’t offer the practical alternative a lot of stores want: a soft opt-out at checkout (leave unchecked to stay on marketing; check to opt out). It’s opt-in only.
Worse: with abandoned-cart tracking enabled, the plugin listens for blur on any
input[type=email]outside checkout, then creates contacts as unsubscribed without the customer being told. That’s not obvious from the plugin settings.Support didn’t seem to understand the questions, even when I pointed at the exact lines in the plugin.
Be very wary of how this plugin works before you rely on it for consent and contact capture.
Cheers
Dan
